The stars are getting ready to come out for the 2024 Golden Globe Awards, and in the spirit of the New Year, some of them have made some major changes. While we have to wait to see what new makeup looks and fashion trends will dominate the night, we have a sneak preview of the new hair colors we’ll see on the red carpet, courtesy of celebrity colorists Tracey Cunningham and Jacob Schwartz.

The 2024 Golden Globe Awards

The 81st Golden Globe Awards will air Sunday evening, hosted at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California by comedian Jo Koy. This is the first major awards show since the months-long writer’s strike ended, and all eyes are on the red carpet to see what 2024 will have to offer.

Jewel-Tone Jackpot

Having just recently finished Emma Stone’s massive hair transformation from long and black to a short platinum bob and then to a rich red for awards season, Cunningham predicts we’ll see a lot of more color on the 2024 Golden Globe carpet. Stone is nominated for Best Actress for her work in Poor Things.

“We will be seeing a lot of high-shine jewel tones this red carpet season like we’ve seen on my clients Riley Keogh and Emma Stone who have both been nominated for Golden Globes,” Cunningham says.

And yes, all that hair in Poor Things is Emma Stone’s, which she grew out to her waist and dyed black for the film.

If you’re looking to give your newly dyed hair that light-catching, healthy shine, the good news is you can achieve it home.

“For those of us who want that beautiful red-carpet shine at home, I recommend OLAPLEX No.7 Bonding Oil ($30), which I use on my clients to give hair that sleek, healthy shine, reduce breakage, and control frizz,” Cunningham explains.

And deep jewel-tones aren’t the only colors we’ll see at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards.

The Year of the Blonde Continued

We all remember the massive success of Barbie! last year, and Schwartz believes this Blonde Moment is just getting started.

“This award season is going to be all about blondes,” Schwartz says. “You will see a lot of my #spunwithgold technique on my clients this year like Margot Robbie, Sydney Sweeney, and Brie Larson. It’s one of my favorite techniques because it gives such a natural effortless look to the hair.”

Schwartz coined the #spunwithgold technique after observing how famous Renaissance painter, Botticelli, used a delicate style of layering shades in hair to look like captured light. This technique can be seen in his most famous work, The Birth of Venus, where some strands look illuminated and golden.

While #spunwithgold will ensure your color looks natural and sun-kissed, if you want it to look effortlessly healthy after highlights, Schwartz has a few recommendations.

“In the salon, I always recommend the OLAPLEX 4-in-1 Moisture Mask after highlights, or at home, use the Olaplex No.8 ($30),” Schwartz says. “If their hair is dull and lackluster, I will use the Broad Spectrum Chelating Treatment before the highlights in the salon or in between appointments. At home, use No.4C Bond Maintenance Clarifying Shampoo ($30) to keep the hair fresh and free of hard water and minerals.”
